This week we welcome Katherine Englander of HRP4B to facilitate "No Fear Hiring" for entrepreneurs and small business owners considering adding to their teams. This session is for those looking to hire within the next year or so.
Because bringing another person into the small business bubble can be intimidating - the paperwork and shift from being a solopreneur or using contracted help to being an employer is a significant change with best practices for success, both from a regulatory point of view and for simply finding the best fit for what you are looking for.
In this week's session, participants will learn more about the following concepts and steps to success and approaching the hiring process without feeling intimidated!
  1. Research the hiring process - Familiarize yourself with the laws and regulations that apply to the hiring process. Including understanding how to post a job opening properly, what questions you can and cannot ask in an interview, and how to conduct a background check, if necessary.
  2. Determine the role and responsibilities - Think carefully about the position you are hiring for and what skills and experience the candidate needs to be successful. Create a job description that clearly outlines the role and responsibilities.
  3. Set a budget - Have an idea of what the salary range will be and how much you are willing to invest in benefits and ongoing training. Consider how the new hire may impact your budget, such as taxes and insurance.
  4. Establish an onboarding process - Have a plan for introducing the new hire to your business and culture. Include onboarding tasks, such as completing paperwork and setting up a workspace, and activities to help the new hire learn about your company and team.
  5. Develop a training program - Determine what training the new hire will need and how you will provide it. Consider using online learning tools, in-person training, and mentorships to ensure the new hire has the skills and knowledge to succeed.
