As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Canadians unexpectedly had to work from home in 2020. In response, the CRA has made the home office expenses deduction available to more Canadians.
As an employee, you may be able to claim certain home office expenses (work-space-in-the-home expenses, office supplies, and certain phone expenses). These deductions can be claimed on your personal income tax return for the 2020 tax year. Deductions reduce the amount of income you pay tax on, so they reduce your overall income tax liability.
