This is awarded to a Libro small business customer who has created a successful and growing business that is positively impacting the economic well-being of the Elgin/St Thomas community through job creation and demonstrated support of other businesses in the community, innovative business strategies that display positive financial trending and demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a changing business world.

Coffee was Maria Fiallos’ destiny. After all, it’s been the family business for four generations. So it was only natural that when she moved to Canada from Nicaragua she and her sister, Valeria, would establish a business – a micro-roastery called Las Chicas Del Café.  Housed in the historic Caso Building in St. Thomas, Las Chicas has been recognized and received top honours by Coffee Review, the world’s leading coffee guide, has been featured in numerous articles and culinary reviews and has been showcased on CBC Radio. Las Chicas is a strong supporter of giving back and they support many community events as well as sponsoring and donating whenever possible. They support the Canadian Registered charity Los Frutos, a charity very close to their hearts. Las Chicas has created jobs in our community and continues to look for ways to create economic impact in St. Thomas. They’ve created a new partnership in St. Thomas and opened Streamliners Espresso Bar in downtown St. Thomas, serving Espresso, French Press, and Chemex drinks. Congrats Maria and Valleria, we are so fortunate to have you in our small business community. Thank you for all you do!
