The Elgin County Economic Development Award is given to a business who exemplifies Elgin’s progressive nature, by being an integral part of Elgin County’s Economic Development & Tourism programming.

Doris & Gabriel Chordeker of Shebaz Shawarma & Falafel, realized that a different style of cuisine in the village of Port Stanley would be a great opportunity to embark on. Opening a shawarma business has always been a dream of Gabriel’s since moving to Canada from his home country of Israel. His wife Doris was also excited to bring Mediterranean culture to Port Stanley, making it a great business venture for the two. The restaurant serves up Mediterranean style street cuisine that includes Shawarma, Falafel, Samosas and spring rolls.

Doris & Gabriel have taken part in the Elgincentives program, being the first business to take advantage of the Outdoor Art grant with the mural on the side of their building.  They are active members of the Savour Elgin and Elgin Ambassador programs.

Doris and Gabriel you are shining examples of Elgin’s progressive spirit, for all of your hard work and dedication to your community we would like to present you with Elgin County’s Economic Development Award.  Congratulations.
